Man CAVE

Do you enjoy watching the TV experts repairing and restoring treasured items and wish you could do it yourself?  Ever wanted a garden shed to potter about in but don’t have the space?  The basement at The Settlement in Maryport has been converted into a workshop-type area, called a Men’s Shed, in which you can repair things or learn new skills while building friendships and, above all, having a laugh...

Activities will vary according to the skills and interests of members but may include woodworking, metalworking, repairing and restoring, electronics or model building. Men’s Sheds are not just for older men, Younger men and women are welcome too.

If this exciting new facility is successful, it may join the national network of Men’s Sheds (see menssheds.org.uk).  Many Sheds get involved in community projects such as restoring village features, helping maintain parks and green spaces, and building things for schools, libraries and individuals in need.

Organiser Jim O’Rourke says, “Whatever the activity, the essence of a Shed is not a building, but the connections and relationships between its members. Come and join our friendly bunch.”
