Christine Slater
Volunteer
I grew up in West Cumberland but moved away to go to college and eventually ended up in Glasgow, where I was a scientific researcher at the University of Glasgow for many years. Glasgow was where I developed a taste for live theatre and music, and I particularly enjoy them in smaller venues.
My Story
When I retired, I returned to West Cumbria and although I am originally from Workington, I bought a house in Maryport and started attending talks by local authors and occasional exhibitions at The Settlement.
I became a volunteer in 2020.
With my scientific laboratory background, I volunteered to help with health and safety.
I then started organising monthly film nights in collaboration with Cine North and some live theatre through Arts Out West, for which I am now the Promoter.
I have also served as a Trustee for Castle Hill Trust.
