The Settlement is delighted to welcome Christine Tassan and the Imposteurs. Christine and her band have been making their mark around the world for over 20 years! Twenty years of spreading Gypsy jazz and swing songs, both on prestigious stages and in small villages far from major urban centres.
It was by reminiscing about this incredibly rich and adventure-filled journey that the musicians came up with the idea of creating "On the Road." This concept show will take the audience with them, on the road during their tours, through magnificent landscapes with delightful anecdotes. Get ready for the ascent of the Great Wall of China, a bike ride in Stanley Park in Vancouver and crossing the Rockies in a snowstorm.

Loshn are a Klezmer trio whose intimate arrangements speak, sing and dance with the tradition’s distinct Yiddish accent. With a repertoire that spans several decades, Loshn take their audiences on a journey from the origins of the music in Eastern Europe through to America in the 50s and beyond.
Bringing together three of the UK’s leading Klezmer musicians, Loshn are one of the few Klezmer ensembles in the UK dedicated to Yiddish Historically Informed Performance Practice. Combining beautiful and varied repertoire with their knowledge of the music’s
background and history, they present a programme deeply rooted in the Klezmer tradition.

Holy Cow! Gods behaving badly
When the Holy Cow is stolen, it sets in motion a cosmic chain of unexpected events…. The River Goddess leaps from the skies, and only Shiva’s hair can catch her wild torrents. A king has more sons than space but taking a fancy to the Sky God’s palace is never going to end well! A demonic power threatens to obliterate the world, and still the river roars, surging from mountains to sea, leaving no stone (or ego) unturned as she washes illusion from the truth.
Storyteller Emily Hennessey and acclaimed sitar player Sheema Mukherjee have been fusing live storytelling and music for many years, specialising in Indian mythology with music that draws on both Indian classical and contemporary traditions. With a style that is highly accessible and deeply engaging, they have toured a wide range of venues including British Museum, Soho Theatre and York Theatre Royal.

Expect a fast-flowing stream of cosmic creatures, celestial curses, wise women, and gods behaving badly in these Indian stories of liberation, transformation and love. Suitable for age 14+ .
Emily Hennessey
Emily Hennessey is a bold and dynamic performance storyteller who tells myths, epics, folktales and wondertales from across the world.
Emily discovered the art of performance storytelling in 2001 when at the University of Kent. Here she met storyteller, Vayu Naidu. Vayu’s classes in storytelling were a huge inspiration for Emily. Having recently returned from working in Nepal, Emily took great delight in exploring stories from the Indian Subcontinent as well as folktales from Scandinavia, from where she hails.
Emily previously lived and worked in Kent where she was director of Scandalmongers, a storytelling theatre company, and ran Scandal Nights, a popular storytelling club at the Tom Thumb Theatre. She now lives in Cumbria with her children and husband, storyteller and musician, Nick Hennessey.

Sheema Mukherjee
Sheema Mukherjee absorbed North Indian classical music and the western tradition side-by-side, studying sitar and Indian classical music under the tutelage of her uncle, the Late Pandit Nikhil Banerjee and then with the Late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Brought up between Britain and India, she has a rich background to draw on in her own compositions and collaborations. Sheema works across many styles and genres from eastern and western classical music to jazz, pop and dance music.
